Dissertation Project: Psychedelics & Christianity
Are you interested in participating in a research study on Christianity and psychedelics? I am looking for participants to take part in a study about how Christians make meaning from mystical psychedelic experiences.
Who am I? My name is Katie Hamaker. I am a PhD candidate at California Institute for Integral Studies in the Women’s Spirituality Department. I hope through this research to open up a conversation about how Christian psychedelic meaning making from mystical experiences can translate into community healing, reparation, and social justice. Embedded in this inquiry is an exploration of Christian domination and an acknowledgement of a US colonial history of oppression. How does one enmeshed in a culture of Christianity, that has elements of domination, learn to be aware of and actively seek to prevent domination from framing new mystical meaning once again?
I too am asking myself these very questions. In this way, participating in this research will look like a conversation with some initial pre-planned questions followed by conversations about psychedelic experiences that have led to significant mystical moments.
If you are over 21, identify as culturally, socially or religiously Christian, currently identify or have identified in the past identified as she/her, have consumed psychedelics in the past year for spiritual and/or religious purposes, and are interested in participating, please fill out the following questionnaire here: https://forms.office.com/r/td2h2cvHjV
